John Bunce - Founder & Director
John is a qualified mountain leader with over 15 years experience walking and leading groups in the mountains and hills of the UK. He is passionate about people enjoying the mountains. John trained as a PE teacher; his career in education has afforded him a wide range of experiences from teaching the highly motivated to engaging with disaffected youth in both the maintained and independent sectors. As well as teaching he has extensive experience in pastoral roles including four years working as a Chaplain. Most recently, he was Vice Principal at a highly successful Academy in Yorkshire.
Throughout his teaching experiences John has recognised the need for young people to be challenged to help them cope with the other stresses and strains of life. He sees Up Mountains as a way of drawing on all aspects of his life experiences to help others.
Lizzie Bunce - Associate Director (Emotional Logic)
Lizzie is married to John and together they have four children. She also comes from a teaching background and has extensive pastoral experience. Her professional career has included working with groups of disaffected teenagers and mentoring women and young people with copious cups of tea. Aside of Up Mountains, her latest venture involves developing a marriage course.
Whilst not as much of an outdoor enthusiast as her husband, Lizzie has recently climbed Snowdon on the inaugural Up Mountains expedition and so can empathise with the challenge involved!
